In October Rizzoli will be republishing what is regarded by many to be the strangest book in the world, the Codex Seraphinianus. The Codex is unlike other historically well-known strange books (such as the Voynich Manuscript), in that the author of the book is not only known (Luigi Serafini is his name), he’s still alive. But the book is just so damned strange that it has accumulated a veritable industry of speculation about its meaning, deeper origins, and whether the language in which it is written actually has any syntax or not. Serafini has said relatively little about it himself over the years (…)

Any time someone tells you that people in the past were more polite than they are today, show them this picture of Marie Antoinette and Lafayette riding a giant 8-foot dick.

Poster design for Cycles Gladiator, ca. 1895. Artist unknown.

Description: Arguably the most famous of all bicycle posters, this image of a redheaded sylph being propelled through the sky by the unparalleled speed of her Gladiator cycle appears on everything in contemporary culture… and yet the design itself remains uncredited, despite the presence of the faint initials L.W. in the lower right corner.

'Román o věrném přátelství Amise a Amila / The Romance About The Faithful Friendship Of Amis And Amil' by Julius Zeyer; illustrated by Artuš Scheiner, ca. 1880.

Description: A romantic mediaeval narrative, set in France ‘The Romance About The Faithful Friendship Of Amis And Amil’ is one of Zeyer’s “restored paintings”. These are stories taken from old literature and retold in a modern way, in a highly embellished fashion, with great emphasis on style and psychological analysis. (Source)

This is my first illustration for the fall semester of school, and I am pleased with how it turned out.  It’s based of a poem by Carol Ann Duffy called "Little Red Cap."  I am starting to see my voice in my work, and that is so motivating.
