Anders seems fairly depressed in my current playthrough. Sorry buddy, my Hawke flirts with everyone including you but Fenris is just special.

This wasn’t supposed to make me sad

dragonageconfessions:

Confession: When I first met Anders in Awakening, I thought it was ridiculous to have an apostate spirit healer, so I made him a blood mage. I have no regrets.

Except…that’s totally missing the point of Anders?

I mean, his entire argument in Awakening is that he thinks it’s ridiculous that mages are imprisoned for simply existing, rather than being given the chance to exist in society and be judged for their actual actions. He’s not evil, he just hates his oppression. And he doesn’t want to be free for any nefarious reason; he wants to be free because he’s human and he finds the fact that the fear and will of other humans are oppressing him to be unacceptable.

And the tragedy of Anders is this: he is a healer at heart, and a surprisingly compassionate person. Even at the peak of his running away all the time, whenever he can, he would still help a wounded stranger, even if he knew it meant getting caught. He would come back to the Warden-Commander who sent him away because he knows he could help, and feels that he should, no matter the consequences. He wants to use his magic for good, and consistently does so, but the Chantry only cares about the fact that he has magic. Making him a blood mage and stripping him of his healing abilities makes him a different type of character altogether, and a far less interesting one at that.

Why do you even bother Nathaniel.

theresidentdevil:

S-Sad feelings??? nO

Only doodles of happy Anders allowed from me today.

Because I refuse to feel sad. And perky music made me want to draw smiley peoples.

Because I am nothing if not a shameless fangirl.

“Hey, don’t worry about the statue’s inaccuracy, though. As you remember I’ve got an inaccurate statue too—probably broken by now, but I’ve got one. Now we match.”

I don’t always draw lazily done mini comics, but when I do, my brother is responsible for spawning the idea. The whole: “What if Anders eventually got a statue in his honor.” idea. :V

ryuichifoxe:

“What’s this, brother? No witty one-liner or smug grin?”

;n; I’ll stop now but, just…Carver.

dragonagefriendlyreminders:

friendly reminder that if your LI was Anders, he’s still a Grey Warden and he’ll eventually go to the Deep Roads for his Calling, and then Hawke will be completely alone. ✿◕‿◕✿

I’ve always thought it likely that Anders won’t want to go down into the Deep Roads for his Calling- he’s estranged from the Wardens and hates the Deep Roads passionately, it’s the last place he’d want to die.  Without the ritualized nature of departing on one’s Calling provided by being an active member of the Order, which affords the Warden respect and a measure of closure, there’s not exactly a whole lot of incentive to go die a violent, lonely death in the dark.

Anders, I suspect, would rather choose the place and time of his own end.  I like to think if he and Hawke are together, they help each other come to terms with it, and that Hawke is there for him when he goes.

casey-chu:

So I commissioned the amazing skillethelm for concept art depicting the outfit changes (and the pairings) in my fic Dawn of the Magic Age. Anders gets some bitchin’ mage armor part-way through the story, and I decided that he’d keep his post-explosion-fugitive haircut. When the drawing was done both me and the artist were like “DAYUM Anders, you lookin’ good with short hair.”

And, of course, rogue Hawke is watching over him.
